Superintendent – The Moab Golf Club

The Moab Golf Course is an 18 hole public facility located in Moab, Utah.  The course is carved out of the native desert landscape and has four sets of tees, ranging from 4785 to 6859 yards, to accommodate all skill levels.  Play is split among tourists and locals and provides an enjoyable balance.  The course is open year-round, weather permitting, but the winter season slows down and allows for flexible scheduling.  Scenic red rock vistas abound and with the La Sal Mountains to the south, the high desert Moab lifestyle attracts visitors from around the globe and still maintains a cozy small-town vibe.  Moab boasts two national parks and other abundant recreational opportunities providing a unique and vibrant lifestyle.

Ideal candidates must be able to manage, train, and direct staff efficiently.  Irrigation troubleshooting, maintaining, and repair work is mandatory.  Hands-on work is required in this position, and being mechanically inclined is necessary.  Effective communication skills are needed to convey information to staff, other departments, the board of directors, and golfers.  Hard-work and a commitment to providing a quality product are imperative.

Responsibilities

Maintains all grounds including the course and clubhouse.
Hires, trains, and supervises maintenance staff.
Maintains inventory and equipment to achieve maximum efficiency.
Communicates with the general manager and board of directors to discuss plans, goals, and functions. As well as keeping golfers informed of golf course activities.
Prepares and maintains detailed recordkeeping of fertilization and chemical applications.
Completes assignments and projects on time and within budget.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

3-5 years experience in turfgrass as a Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent.
College and/or turfgrass certification preferred.
GCSAA membership preferred.
Knowledge of budgeting and expense management.
Supervisory skills.
Possess applicators license or be able to obtain one within 2 months of starting.
Knowledge of laws and regulations pertaining to golf course operations.
Highly organized, detailed-oriented, and passionate about golf.

Salary Range

$65,000 to $85,000
