The Links Scholarship Application Form

Our scholarship was named after Raymond Link, who died at unexpectedly at a young age while on vacation. Raymond was a superintendent in Haley, Idaho at the time of his passing. Raymond was respected by all and loved by many. The Idaho GCSA scholarship is named in his honor.

  The Idaho GCSA Link Award competition offers educational aid to the children of Idaho GCSA members, or to students enrolled in turf studies. The Idaho Golf Course Superintendents Association, at their discretion, administers the awards and determines the dollar amounts each year.
  
  The Idaho GCSA Scholarship Committee will review applications. All decisions of the committee will be final. Scholarship recipients will receive the scholarship check with a letter of acknowledgement by June 15. All scholarship award checks will be made payable to the applicant.
  
  Eligibility for applicants of either the Legacy Award or the Turf Award:
  
  Legacy Award:
  
  
  • One or more of the applicant’s parents must be a Idaho GCSA member and currently active for at least 12 months in one of the following classifications: AA, A – Golf Course Superintendent, B- Golf Course Superintendent, C- Assistant Golf Course Superintendent, D-Allied, F-Associate or G-Honorary Life. The competition is open to natural or adoptive offspring of Idaho GCSA members. Children of deceased members are also eligible if the member was currently active at the time of his or her death.
  • The student must be enrolled full-time at an accredited institution of higher learning, or in the case of high school seniors, must be accepted at such an institution for the next academic year. Graduating high school seniors must attach a letter of acceptance to their application.
  • The Committee requests the recipient of the Legacy Award write a brief 'thank you' letter to the members of the Idaho Golf Course Superintendents Association. The letter should also contain a brief description of accomplishments during the scholarship period. The letter should be completed within one month from the end of the semester and may be published in the Grass Clippings.
  • Past winners are eligible to apply the following year.
  • Although any number of students from the same family may apply, only one student per family will be eligible to receive an award.
  
  Turf Award:
  
  
  • The student must be enrolled in an accredited institution of higher learning, or in the case of high school seniors, must be accepted at such an institution for the next academic year. Graduating high school seniors must attach a letter of acceptance to their application. OR
  • Students enrolled in an internet turf class are eligible to apply with proof of enrollment, and a letter from an employer or a turf adviser stating they have an affiliation to the turf industry.
  • An applicant receiving the Turf Award must maintain a 3.0 in core classes and a 2.0 GPA overall.
  • The Committee requests the recipient of the Turf Award write a brief 'thank you' letter to the members of the Idaho Golf Course Superintendents Association. The letter should also contain a brief description of accomplishments during the scholarship period. The letter should be completed within one month from the end of the semester and may be published in the Grass Clippings.
  • Past winners are eligible to apply the following year.
  • Although any number of students from the same family may apply, only one student per family will be eligible to receive an award.
  
  Criteria for Selection for Legacy Award and Turf Award
  
  
  • Applicants will be evaluated based on academic achievement, extracurricular and community involvement, leadership and outside employment, and on his/her application.
  • The student’s composition of an original 400-500 word essay on his/her future plans and any topic relating to the golf course industry. The essay must be original and not previously submitted to Idaho GCSA.
  • Financial need is not a factor in the selection.
  • In the event that the Scholarship Committee feels that there are no qualified applicants during any given year, the award may be withheld during that year.
  
  How to Apply
  Students must complete and submit an application form and supply the following documents:
  
  
  • All high school transcripts, or, official college transcripts (depending on most recent attended institution).
  • Typed original essay.
  • Graduating high school seniors must submit proof of college acceptance.
  • Meet criteria as defined under each award.
  • Completed application (including accompanying documents) must be received in the Idaho GCSA office anytime prior to, or on, April 20.
